The nephrology and Renal Transplant unit of Mallya was established in 1991 and caters to patients not
only from Bangalore and Karnataka state but also from other states and countries like Bangladesh,
Sri Lanka, Maldives and Middle Eastern Countries.
The center has done many hundreds of Renal transplant with high success rates and is recognized for Renal Transplant by the government of Karnataka.

The dialysis unit has state of the art computerized machines with very experienced and humane dialysis personne.
There is a separate wing for the Hep B Positive cases.The Unit does about 6000 to 7000 dialysis sessions every year with experience all types of vascular access.
Erythropoietin injections is used to correct anaemia in most patients.Bicarbonate dialysis, High flux dialysis and CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
are done routinely.

The unit now is one of the earliest and leading centers for Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. Automated PD is also available.

Mallya Hospital is one of the earliest Super speciality Hospital in South India to have an active Renal Transplant program with many
hundreds of successful transplants to its credit. All Types of immunosuppressive drugs like Simulect, Zenapax, Mycophenlate, Rapamycin apart from conventional
medications like Cyclosporine (Sandimmun Neoral) are available and used regularly.

Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory:
Mallya Hospital houses the most modern Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory in the stare. Digital technology provided the doctor with an instant and accurate method of detection of coronary arterial blockage (i.e. blockage in the blood vessels to the heart). The equipment also helps in determining accurate measurements of blood vessels sizes. These data are used to extrapolate the consequences and severity of blockage so that adequate action may be taken at the correct time.

Digital technology provides data storage in binary digits, which can not deteriorate over time or due to wear and tear, unlike ordinary tape storage. Hence videos of cases may be recalled years later for reference or otherwise. This video is also given to each patient in the conventional magnetic storage system in high fidelity.

The lab performs Cardiac Catheterisation / Angiography, Angioplasty, Atherectomy, TEC (Transluminal Extraction) Procedure, Stent Placement, Pacemaker Implant and other cutting edge procedures involved on cardiology today.

Intravascular Ultra Sound:
This facility was the first of its kind in Southern India. The sonic equipment helps to visualise blood vessels from within sonic waves transmitted by the machine from inside the blood vessel are recorded art exterior thus providing a precise image of the blood vessel shape and size. The data provides the doctor with a firm platform for analysing prognosis and prescribing required medical or surgical treatment. The data are also more accurate than those provided with conventional angiogram procedures and so can be used to verify even angioplasty and stent placement procedures. This technology actually allows monitoring of the heart from outside without necessarily invading the body.

ECG:
The 3 channel computerised echocardiography machine provides an extra view of the happenings within the heart chamber. In addition to this, the lab also has facilities for vector cardiogram and signal averaged ECG. These help in the detection of small heart attacks, which may not be evident on the conventional ECG. The Signal averages ECG enables one to even predict the risk of sudden death.

Computerised Treadmill Stress Testing:
Treadmill testing helps to diagnose the presence of blockage in heart blood vessels, aiding in early diagnosis of patients with heart problems. During progressive exercise a person's ECG and blood pressure are monitored to evaluate cardiac fitness.

Echocardiogram:
The advanced echocardiogram machine is used to study the structure and function of the heart muscles and valves. Colour flow mapping enables doctors to actually visualise the flow of blood through the heart and it is versatile enough to study a wide range of heart from a day old infant to elderly people. Acoustic quantification helps to assess the heart muscle. The multiplane transoesophageal echo helps to visualise structure inside the heart, Which can't be as well seen by the standard transthoracic echo.

I.A.B.P. and other support system have ensured safe operability even on patients with advance coronary artery by pass surgery as well as valve repair of replacement combined procedure have been done with excellent results.

The post Cardiac Surgical ICU accommodate 10 patients for post-operative surgical care, all the beds are equipped with HP monitoring systems with facilities for on the spot blood gas analysis and to record and measure critical care parameters.

The department of Neonatology has been programmed to be evolved in 2 phases. In the first phase 3 objectives are to be :

The unit ( 2800 Sq. ft. ) centrally airconditioned has 20 beds with 6 ventillators currently and in the expansion programme to go upto 10 ventillators. Each ventillated baby has 1:1 nursing by experienced nursing staff. Each critical baby has invasive blood pressure monitoring along with pulse oximeter and heart rate monitoring ( HEWLETT PACKWARD VIRIDIA ). The ventillators include SLE 2000 HFO ( High Frequency Ventillator ) and conventional ventillators Bear Cub etc. It is planned to include volume ventillators SEIMENS 300c as well as systems to incorporate Nitric Oxide systems. This will give a complete technologically advanced aramentariem for the rescue of a critical new born baby with respiratory failure. Pulmonary mechanics monitoring will be incorporated in the unit in phase II.

The equipment for level II babies include servo controlled warmers ( PHOENIX ) as well as incubators ( Vickers ) Pulse oximeters are used for all babies less than 33 weeks. The pulse oximeters used are NELLCOR as well as CRITICARE.

The team is headed by Dr. Rajiv who has obtained his fellowship in Neonatology from Australia, Westad Hospital, Sydney. He has 10 years experience in the case of critical neonates. He underwent training in high frequency ventillation from University of Iowa in 1997 and since then has been using it effectively in preterm neonates with respiratory failure unresponsive to conventional ventillation. He was head of Perinatal medicine of Abishek Paediatric Foundation PVS Memorial Hospital Cochin from 1992 to 1999. This NICU designed by him was 3500 Sq. ft centrally air conditioned unit with 22 beds and 10 ventillators. The department has saved 3025 babies in the last 7 years of functioning with a survival of 92% in the care of babies born of 26 weeks gestation and weight 750 grams upwards. This centre was the first to save a 500 gram baby born of approximately 23 weeks gestation with a normal neurological and ophthalmological outcome. Dr. Rajiv has joined Mallya Hospital in April 99 and was the first to successfully ventillate a 1.3Kg baby born of 30 weeks gestation by high frequency ventillation in Bangalore city. A core team of nurses high trained nurses have come with Dr. Rajiv from Cochin to Mallya.

1.SHORT WAVE DIATHERAPY
Short wave diathermy is the application to the tissues of electrical fields which osculates at a frequency
of 27.12mhz and have a wave length of 11.06m. It can be used to treat both deep and superficial lesions.
It Produces a greater and more rapid wise temperature than the conductive methods of heat.large areas can
be treated and it is useful for soft-tissue infers, degenerative and inflammatory orthopedics, slow healing

2.ULTRA SOUND THERAPY
This is the production of Longitudinal mechanical waves above the audible range(20khz).
